Do I need a license?

Accepted Answer

No. Paramotoring in the United States falls under Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) part 103. It states that no license, medical certificate, registration, or training is required to fly. You are required to fly during daylight hours (sunrise - sunset) and stay away from congested areas and you can’t carry passengers without a waiver. Your ground school training will go in-depth on general regulations and airspace rules.

How long is training?

Training solely depends on the student and weather. Some students pick up on things faster than others so they may start flying sooner. Our goal is to have at least 25 flights and a PPG2 rating by the end of the training. Typically between 8 and 10 days is the average time it takes to complete this.

Do I need to purchase equipment before starting training?

No, you don't need to buy any equipment before training. We provide all the necessary gear for your training sessions. Once you complete your training with Freedom PPG, we'll assist you in selecting the best equipment for your needs.

What should I do if the engine stops mid-flight?

In the event of an engine failure, you will still be flying a large parachute, allowing you to glide safely to the ground. You will practice landing with the engine off, so always keep an eye out for potential landing spots during your flight. If the engine does stop, simply glide to your chosen landing spot and seek assistance or walk if it's close to your vehicle.

Do training sessions include tandem flights?

Absolutely! As part of our training program, you will experience a tandem flight before your solo flight. Tandem flights are an excellent way to prepare for your first solo flight, allowing you to practice flight maneuvers and learn how to handle various situations that may arise during your solo flight.

We usually fly in the morning and evening when the weather conditions are calm. Experienced pilots may fly in stronger conditions. Weather and wind conditions vary by location; coastal winds are generally smooth and stable, while mountain or inland winds can be turbulent. You'll learn about these conditions in ground school.
